Notts County resign Forte

Notts County have resigned Barbados international Jonathan Forte from Scunthorpe United on a month loan deal.  The Sheffield born striker had a one month loan spell at Meadow Lane last year, and scored four goals in four league appearances for the Magpies. Scunthorpe were initially unwilling to let him go out because they wanted cover for their strikers, but then agreed to send him back to Meadow Lane.

Forte had scored a hat trick on his Notts County debut against Barnet, and manager Ian McParlandis hoping that the 22 year old can continue in the same vein in his second stint at Meadow Lane.

Forte himself said that he was pleased to be returning to the Magpies, and added that he would like to stay till the end of the season if it was possible.

Yeovil Town part company with manager Russell Slade

League one side Yeovil Town have announced that they have parted company with manager Russell Slade. The club gave no reason for the termination on its official website and has appointed Steve Thompson as their caretaker manager for the league game against local rivals Bristol Rovers tomorrow.

Slade arrived at Yeovil from Grimsby in the summer of 2006, and lead the Glovers to the League One playoff final in his first season at Huish Park. Yeovil beat Nottingham Forest en route to the final, turning around a 2-0 deficit from the first leg to win 5-4 on aggregate. They lost 2-0 in the final to Blackpool.

Yeovil are currently 16th in League One with 36 points, and have won their last four games. It is widely rumoured that Slade fell out with chairman John Fry over the unavailability of funds to bring in new players. Given Slade’s record at the club, it seems unlikely that Yeovil would have sacked him for performance issues.

In his 121 games in charge of Huish Park, Slade won 46, lost 46, and drew 29 games.

Carlisle United sign Lewis Neal

League One side Carlisle United have announced the signing of Preston North End winger Lewis Neal on a six month deal. Neal, 27,  is a replacement for Simon Hackney, who left the Cumbrians for Colchester in this transfer window.

Neal started his career with Stoke City before moving to PNE in 2005. He spent a month on loan at Notts County prior to Christmas.  Early in his career, he also went on loan to Icelandic club ÍB Vestmannaeyjar.

Carlisle boss Greg Abott was delighted with the capture of Neal, and said that he would provide some much needed depth to the left midfielder’s position. Abott also said that they could extend Neal’s deal if the winger plays consistently well at Brunton Park.
